The Women Who Inspired Morrison &Co. Preserves

Every summer of my youth was spent at our family cottage on Lac Poisson Blanc in Western Quebec. The days were a blend of racing through forests, swimming in the lake, and eagerly awaiting the evening meal. In the heart of the cottage, the kitchen was a shared domain between my Aunt Marlene and my mother, Gail, with everything overseen by my Nana Dorothy. Together, they filled the air with the aroma of meals that celebrated the land around us.


We picked strawberries and raspberries along the old dirt road. In early autumn, crab apples from the local farm pastures were gathered from the back of a tractor. These were all transformed into flavourful jams and jellies. These women dedicated themselves to preserving flavours, not just through meals, but through time-honoured recipes of jams and pickles that remain at the heart of Morrison & Co. today.
